O’Connor says due to the blazing contents of the warehouse, the firefighters focused on preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.

“Quite a big magnitude of fire – because once the flames exploded – because of the combustible material – because it’s a warehouse – which had rugs and materials – the fire just engulfed the whole building. Bug fire fighting challenged was to prevent it from spreading to the other buildings and we are happy that we managed to contain it.”

The Atlas Trading warehouse fire is believed to have been the biggest in Fiji this year.
