Waqaniburotu confident with side to face the Wallabies

Flying Fijians Captain Dominiko Waqaniburotu believes they have the best possible team to tackle the Wallabies in Sapporo, Japan tomorrow.

A powerful and experienced Flying Fijians side will open Fiji’s 2019 Rugby World Cup {RWC} campaign against two time champions Australia.

Three Fijians have been named in the Australian starting 15.

But Waqaniburotu says Fiji has the best available players that will run out tomorrow.

“Just wanna say congratulations to the 23 that has been named and they know what’s expected of them this week.”

The established forward pack combination of Campese Ma’afu, Sam Matavesi and Peni Ravai in the front row, Tevita Cavubati and Leone Nakarawa at locks, Captain Dominiko Waqaniburotu and Peceli Yato on the flanks and Viliame Mata at number 8 will spearhead Fiji’s attack.

Frank Lomani and Ben Volavola will drive play for Fiji from the halves, supported by Kini Murimurivalu at full-back, and a backline that is set to ignite.

The midfield pair of Levani Botia and Waisea Nayacalevu are sure to cause problems for Australia while Semi Radradra is expected to test Reece Hodge under the high balls.

Waqaniburotu says they are satisfied with their preparations this week.

‘The team has been preparing well for the last two weeks and we love our stay here in Abashiri.”

Six players in Fiji’s starting line-up tomorrow also started the last time the Flying Fijians took on Australia at the 2015 World Cup match, they include Leone Nakarawa, Campese Ma’afu,Ben Volavola,Dominiko Waqaniburotu and Waisea Nayacalevu.

At 35-years and 167 days, Vereniki is the oldest member of this squad and should he come off the bench he will join four players in the starting line-up Ma’afu, Nakarawa, Waqaniburotu and Kini Murimurivalu participating in a third World Cup.

Fiji will take on Australia at 4:45pm tomorrow.
