Wainibokasi road works delayed:Khan

July 20, 2015 7:01 pm

The road widening project in Wainibokasi, Nausori has been slowed down by rain over the last month.

Fiji Roads Authority Programmes Manager Zaina Khan says the Chinese contractors have been struggling to stay within deadline.

“On the Wainibokasi Road, the contractor has been struggling with the weather and some of his surfacing works. In order to deal with that, he opened up more which caused a bigger problem for working. We’re working with him to cut down working area and reduce traffic delay because its affecting people going to Nausori and going to work in the morning."

Khan says surfacing in times of bad weather isn’t ideal and there have been instances where new roads have needed to be re-done.

There have also been cases where the contractor has had quality issues and has been told to review the design and mix of the surfacing being laid down.

Khan says despite these setbacks, the Wainibokasi project should be completed in time – with additional bus stops, footpaths, and other utilities now added to the original design.
