Wage order is vital for Maritime workers: Usamate

The Infrastructure Ministry is in the process of establishing a wage regulation order for workers in the Maritime sector.

Minister responsible, Jone Usamate has admitted that the Ministry has failed to establish a wage regulation.

Usamate adds the Wage Regulation Order is the minimum conditions for the remuneration for employees in this particular sector.

He says talks are underway with the Employment Ministry.

“So once that in place it should provide a basic protection for workers in that sector especially those in the medium enterprises and the small enterprises so that’s one era of good development that should come up with the development of the national minimum wage that has been announced by the Minister for Employment.”

Usamate says under the National Minimum Wage is the Wage Regulation Orders for the ten different sectors which includes manufacturing and construction to name a few.
