Fijians are being urged to refrain from disposing of rubbish in the Water Authority of Fiji systems.

The Authority’s Navakai Wastewater team found a sizable amount of rubbish, including PET Bottles, dumped into a sewer manhole, in Wasawasa Road, Nadi, while attending to a sewer blockage complaint.

Chief Executive, Barry Omundson says despite regular reminders, litterbugs continue to dispose of their rubbish irresponsibly.

Omundson says this not only damages WAF assets but hurts other Fijians in the process.

He says fixing the damage results is a lot of money and manpower being wasted every year that could be better utilized to upgrade WAF infrastructure, and improving service delivery.
