The Water Authority of Fiji is refuting claims made by the Fiji Trades Union Congress that over 2000 workers will be laid off by next Wednesday.

FTUC’s General Secretary, Felix Anthony claims some unions may need to go on protest earlier than May 3rd as they’ve received information of massive layoffs.

This comes as FTUC is planning to hold a nationwide protest and a march next week on May 3rd.

However, in a statement WAF Board Chair Bhavesh Kumar strongly refuted these claims saying WAF is going through a restructure and the Authority will finalise its employee numbers shortly.

Kumar says the interpretation of the provisions of the Collective Agreement by the Union is an issue before the Arbitration Court and it would not be fair to make any public comments on the issue at this stage.
