The Water Authority loses around one point five mega litres of water in a day due to a major leakage at the Nagado Water Treatment Plant in Nadi.

The Authority has contracted Elisha Engineering from Ba to carry out urgent repairs next month and as a result residents of Nadi and parts of Lautoka will face water disruptions.

The team has been visiting residents, hoteliers and schools in Nadi and Lautoka urging them to prepare for the planned water disruption.

Chief Operating Officer, Saman Ekanayake, says the repairs will be carried out on February 3rd and disruptions are anticipated to last four days.

“Maximum twenty-four hours for the repair, but after the repair – we have to fill the system because all the pipelines are empty. It takes two and a half days to restore water to pressurize the pipeline system and fill all the reservoirs, but some areas within one day – but for complete restoration it will take about two and half days.”

The project will cost the Water Authority around half a million dollars.
