February 6, 2018 6:00 pm

Water supply is normal in the Nadi and Lautoka areas following the completion of the Nagado Water Shutdown over the weekend.

However, WAF Board Director, Kamal Goundar says after the repair work, they discovered three major pipe bursts in different locations which are affecting the restoration of full water supply to some areas.

“There has been a few burst that also happened on Saturday which has been repaired but there’s two more that we have identified but the team is working on it. This is not related to the works that was carried over the weekend on the shutdown. But the works of the shutdown is fully done and the reservoirs are filled up with water."

WAF adds the pipe burst is a result of old infrastructure which they are working around the clock to repair.

“Because of that burst that has happened – which is a separate issue it’s because of the old infrastructure that water authority has and now we are trying to replace all this aging infrastructure so the team is already mobilizing on the ground and they’re repairing that burst that has taken place.”

Meanwhile, residents in Nadi and Lautoka says water carting trucks responded well to the four day shut down.

WAF says with proper planning – they were able to ensure the availability of drinking water required of 165,000 customers, including the hotel sector and other businesses during the shutdown period.
