WAF confirms water sources are drying up

The Water Authority of Fiji has confirmed water sources in the Western and Northern divisions are drying up.

However Board Director Kamal Goundar has assured Fijians that they have the capacity and capability to address the situation.

Goundar says the dry spell in these two divisions is becoming a problem.

“We have in terms of water authority side as you must be aware the most of the wells and rivers are drying up so these are basically rural areas.”

Goundar says people should use water wisely to ensure that there is enough in the catchment areas to last for the duration of the dry season.

Meanwhile, the Authority is urging the public to conserve water by minimizing usage in the washing of cars and driveways as well as the watering of gardens.
