The ownership of all Indigenous land will remain with the Indigenous people.

This was stated by Lands Minister Mereseini Vuniwaqa while speaking in Parliament.

Vuniwaqa says Itaukei landowners should not listen to comments made by certain politicians that there is fear amongst Indigenous people of losing their land.

Vuniwaqa has also called on members of Opposition to tell the truth to the people that vote for them during the 2014 General Election.

“Question we need to ask ourselves as members of parliament is, are we fueling the fires of fear and resentfulness amongst our own people, have we pointed out the protection under section 28 of the constitution to allay this fears of safety of our indigenous lands.”

Vuniwaqa ensures that Itaukei landowners have the sole ownership of their land and it is well protected under the current constitution.
