Villagers of Vuna in Taveuni were reminded that the seasonal ban on Kawakawa and Donu will end in September.

Speaking to villagers during his visit this week, Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau says supporting the ban will mean more of these species of fish for generations to come.

Koroilavesau says the ban was put in place after research found that the two species were under great threat.

He adds they had to take appropriate measures to ensure the sustainability of the fish species.

The minister adds that the best option was to place a seasonal ban during their spawning period so they can restock our reef systems and increase their population.

Villagers say they understood the reasons for the seasonal ban and fully supported the work carried out by the ministry.
