The Elections Office is already rolling out it’s voter education programme in the lead up to the September 17 General Election.

And the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says the programme is being conducted in stages so that the public is not overwhelmed with information.

Fijians living abroad will receive information about how to vote through the internet.

Voter education will be mostly done through our web sites. I understand that a lot of our overseas Fijians go through our news channel, so we have advertised through our news web sites as well like FBC web site.

For Fijian voters in the country the voter education has already started.

We have decided to go with a visual ad so that Fijians are able to understand, what the process is with the simple explanation. We want to try and create an environment where people understand the information we are trying to push forward. And then we will now follow up with additional ads on additional aspects of elections so that Fijians are well informed before election date.

Saneem says they have been receiving requests from religious organizations to educate their flock about how to vote.
