Lal says the reason behind this major investment is to improve the quality of internet services as they often receive complaints from customer in this area.

“What it means is customers will be able to enjoy fast speed internet and the smartphone penetration in Fiji is over 70% and we expect it to reach 80% very soon and this will allow the smartphone users to have good internet speed but not only in the urban centers but certain rural areas.”

Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the government is also looking out for areas that do not have coverage.

“So we are also identifying areas like whether it’s the Lau group or Kadavu or even in Naitasiri or parts where there is no reception and we use those funds to compliment the investment Vodafone is doing and also the other companies.”

Vodafone Fiji currently provides internet services to over 780,000 Fijians.
