Vocational centre for Juvenile offenders

Juvenile offenders will now get a chance to access education following the re-launch of the Nasinu Correction’s Vocational Centre today.

Fiji Correction Service Commissioner, Commander Francis Kean says the new facility will help juvenile first offenders get their lives back on track.

“Hopefully they will receive some qualification so that when they do finish serving their time with us. They can finally use that certification as a form of securing them some form of employment on their departure from prison.”

Kean says the new facility provides technical education such as automotive engineering and other vocational courses.

He says the centre is also catering for elderly prisoners with some who are bed ridden.

There are currently 173 inmates under the Nasinu Correction Services.
