Domestic Violence is a crime and it must be reported.
Permanent Secretary for Women and Children Dr. Josefa Koroivueta says that domestic violence is often seen as a private matter and does not always get reported.
Dr. Koroivueta stresses that the problem of gender based violence is immense especially against the vulnerable. He says violence against women is a violation of human rights.
“When we go to international forums we do not want to be labelled as a country that has violence against their women and children. Violence against the vulnerable. Violence against the people that matters the most.”
The PS adds that Fiji’s National Development Plan places priority on empowering women to reach their full potential.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Women Crisis Centre in its latest survey has revealed that more than 60 percent of Fijian women are subjected to unacceptable violence.
