Villagers in Cakaudrove switch to solar

Drekeniwai District School, in Navatu, Cakaudrove now has a steady supply of power following the installation of a solar system.

Commissioning the project yesterday, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said reliable electricity meant children will be able to read and study under lights.

The Solar project costs $15,186 and half of it was paid by the villagers and the balance by the government.

The power supply will also enable teachers to use computers and other equipment in the school office.

There are 61 students attending Drekeniwai District School with four teachers.
