Village heads to be vigilant of foreign nationals

Village headmen in the District of Labasa have been urged by the Immigration Department to be vigilant and be aware of foreign nationals staying in and around the Labasa area.

Labasa Immigration Officer Veresa Ceguadrau told the Labasa District Meeting at Naseakula Village this afternoon, some foreign nationals are renting in homes and villages near Labasa town and are being employed by local companies.

He says these foreign national are here on visitor’s visa but are being employed because they know people in the company and this is wrong by law.

Ceguadrau has urged the village headmen to inform villagers that should they know of or see foreign nationals, especially those from high-risk countries, to report to the Immigration Office or the Police.

Villagers have also been advised to be on the lookout for foreign nationals who may be acting suspiciously.
