Vendors sell handicrafts rental free with renovations ongoing

July 20, 2018 5:17 am

Twenty-three vendors from the Suva Handicraft and Curios Bure have been allowed to sell their artifacts in and around the civic centre area free of charge while renovation is on-going.

Suva City Council’s acting chief executive, Bijay Chand says the vendors had to relocate while renovation is being carried out to replace the entire roof of the Bure section.

“We have asked them to relocate if they wish and they’re being allowed to sell free of charge if they find a space to sell when Ships are in, like today there was a ship in so some of them are setting up their stalls, so they’ve been allowed to sell free of charge within this renovation period.”

$140, 000 is being spent on the renovation with a new paint job for the facility expected.

As part of the facelift, the SCC will also put in new signage for the popular shopping centre that’s expected to attract more tourists in particular those from the Cruise Liners that are in Suva Port every couple of weeks.
