Vehicle registration significantly increases

Motor vehicle registration have grown significantly over the last few years with an average growth of nine percent from 2015 to 2016.

Minister for Transport, Parveen Bala says the total number of valid vehicles in Fiji as at December 2016 was 110,763 with seventy-two percent private vehicles, followed by sixteen percent commercial vehicles and ten percent public service vehicles.

Speaking at the Fiji Driving Schools Association meeting, Bala says that there are a lot of vehicles in Fiji and to that we need safer drivers.

He says the onus is on driving school operators to ensure that Fiji has well trained and safe drivers on our roads by ensuring that knowledge and skills imparted to drivers enable them to make right decisions.

Meanwhile, there are 107 driving schools in the country with 49 in the Central/Eastern Division, 14 in the North and 44 in the Western Division.
