Vatuwaqa squatters to be relocated soon

July 14, 2016 5:53 pm

People living in the Nanuku and Veidogo squatter settlement in Vatuwaqa are expected to be relocated to a site in Makoi.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the Minister for Local Government Praveen Kumar met with the residents in the area this week.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the fifty five acre land where the squatters are currently residing belongs to Bhindi Brothers, who are planning to develop the land to set up an industrial, commercial and residential area.

“They recognized the fact that many of you have been here for a very long period of time and in order for them to do the development; they will need you to move out of this place. So they have offered an alternative site in Makoi and for you to have your own block of land for free.”

AG is expected to have a meeting with the Bhindi Brothers in a fortnights’ time.
