July 23, 2014 1:00 am

Key groups involved at every stage of international trade are working on validating Fiji’s Trade Policy Framework.

Permanent Secretary for Trade Shaheen Ali says since the endorsement of the draft policy last September, there have been continued discussions with the private sector, civil society groups and government agencies.

The workshop currently underway in Suva is to consolidate the outcomes of these discussions and finalize the Policy Framework which – Ali says will unlock opportunities for Fijians by enhancing trade, investment, promoting growth sectors and creating jobs.

The Trade Police Framework essentially capitalizes on this positive reforms and growth and at the same time addresses gaps and areas of priorities by providing long term plan which will ensure continuation of coordination and consistency of policies and improve the general business environment and enable trade.

Ali says the Trade Policy Framework will help confirm Fiji’s rightful place as the trade hub of the Pacific.
