Use water wisely: WAF CEO

October 11, 2015 6:33 pm

The Water Authority of Fiji says our major water sources are not at critical level at this stage.

However WAF chief executive Opetaia Ravai says people need to act now and save water as the El Nino phenomenon will affect Fiji until early next year.

Speaking on FBC TV’s ‘4 the record’ program last night Ravai said they are continuing with their road shows and campaigns educating people on how to save water.

“Behavioral change is what is need in terms of our water use – so we are hopeful that through these road-shows and awareness programs people will take notice and start doing things in their homes and in their daily lives to help us conserve our water sources.”

Ravai says WAF officials were informed in advance by the Meteorology Office and the NDMO on the effect El Nino will have on Fiji this year.

The western and the northern divisions are the most affected by El Nino and WAF is carting water to these areas including the outer islands in liaison with the Commissioner’s office.
