Use of latest technology to help in combat crime

The Fiji Police Force has acknowledged the importance of using technology to enhance their operations to the fullest.

Speaking before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence, Director Strategic Planning SSP Aporosa Lutunauga revealed the Force is now using drones particularly to narrow down illicit crop cultivation.

SSP Lutunauga says the use of technology increases their response time, surveillance and search and rescue.

“This is specifically in our war against drugs where we are sending our drones to ease and lessen the risk of our men being faced with violence on the field and it has really assisted the police, our embracement of technology.”

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police ACP Rusiate Tudravu says the Force is now using drones during drug raids.

“We are using in our operation Cavuraka, because most of the areas that we in to, we were combing a large area but using the technology will just pin point to us where to cover so it is assisting us very well and it is one of the capabilities that we would like to acquire to assist us in our future operations.”

Meanwhile, the third phase of Operation Cavuraka commenced on the 1st of this month.
