Use of fireworks to be closely monitored

October 12, 2017 6:20 pm

The Mineral Resources Department is closely monitoring the purchase, possession and use of fireworks.

Director, Dr Raijeli Taga says this is to ensure the safety of the public during this festive season.

“It’s being two weeks now and we’ve been going out and doing the inspection and that’s when they come and consult with the retailers and even the wholesalers. So the wholesalers are when they import, when they go out and clear the container from the port, that’s when they consult with them and the requirements they need to meet.”

Taga warned retailers to avoid selling fireworks if they don’t have a license.

Retailers are being urged to display their ’License to sell" and permits when selling fireworks.

Setting off fireworks is permitted from 5pm to 10pm daily and from 5pm to midnight on Diwali day.
