Usamate updated on water treatment plant earmarked for Nabouwalu

The Water Authority of Fiji is undertaking onsite works for the installation of a water treatment plant in Nabouwalu.

WAF Regional Manager North Apete Radrodrolagi told a briefing for the Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate that they have secured the land for the water source and work on site is ongoing.

He says the parts for the plant is being brought in from overseas adding funding for this project was allocated for in the national budget.

$2.56 million has been set aside for this project which will include the construction and installation of a reservoir.

Provincial Administrator Bua Peni Roko told the Minister they urgently need the water treatment plant or a purification plant so they have to get clean and safe drinking water.

Presently, during heavy downpours, the water gets contaminated and muddy, which results in the closure of the water system.
