Usamate leads delegation to IRENA meeting

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Jone Usamate will lead Fiji’s Delegation to the 9th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency.

More than 1,200 participants from 160 countries, will engage at a high-level discussion to accelerate renewable energy deployment in support of sustainable development goals and global climate objectives.

The assembly will feature several key discussions on critical issues related to the advancement of renewable energy.

It will also decide on the selection of a new Director-General.

The Assembly grants an opportunity for Fiji to continue the momentum set forth during its COP23 Presidency as well as focus its attention on the integrated nature of renewable energy, climate change, and more importantly the transition efforts by Fiji towards becoming 100% dependent on renewable energy.

Approximately 125 heads of states, governments and ministers will be part of the event, making it the largest number of ministerial level participants the agency has ever had.
