US passport and visa system errors

June 16, 2015 5:34 pm

The United States Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with its visa system that performs national security checks.

The US Embassy in Suva says this issue is not specific to any particular country or visa category.

It says security measures prevent consular officers from printing a visa until the case completes the required national security checks.

Currently, the system is unable to print most immigrant and non-immigrant visas approved after June 8, 2015 and U.S. embassies and consulates are unable to process new applications submitted on or after June 9, 2015.

Visa interview appointments are being rescheduled.

The Bureau says it is working urgently to rectify the problem and restore full operability.

There is no evidence the problem is related to cyber security.
