America’s two hundred and fortieth Independence Day was celebrated in Suva yesterday.

United States Ambassador Judith Cefkin elaborated on the theme from sea to shining sea in support of healthy and sustainable oceans and seas.

“Of course the health of our oceans is inseparable from the challenge of climate change. And I think that many of us would agree that curbing global warming remains the defining challenge of our generation."

It was also a day to celebrate the partnership between our two countries which will mark 45 years of diplomatic relations later this month.

Ambassador Cefkin also took the opportunity to commend Fiji on its leadership role to host the first UN Conference on Oceans and Seas next year in June.
