December 11, 2016 4:07 am

The University of Fiji’s fully fledged campus for medical students in the Central Division will open its doors in Samabula from February next year.

This is expected to bring relief for many students who no longer have to travel to the Umanand Prasad School of Medicine in Lautoka.

The Dean for the Umanand Prasad School of Medicine, Dr Abhijit Gogoi
says there is a growing demand for doctors in the country and they are trying to fill the vaccum.

“so we starting with small numbers, 25-35 students local and than going for foreign candidates because foreign candidates is not a problem with overloading the hospitals as we are always concerned that our hospitals are getting overloaded with students because these students will go back to their home countries and do their internship so right now we are just trying to start our campus in Suva and we are almost coordinating with other hospitals and peripheral , subdivision hospitals.“
