UN Women utilizes $4.5m so far

The United Nations Women has so far utilized $4.5 million for the improvement of municipals markets around the country.

UN Women Representative, Nicholas Burniat, says they are working on improving four more municipal markets.

“We’ve been supporting infrastructure development in Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Nausori, Labasa, Suva, Namaka. Now we are moving to Savusavu, and we are still working on Sigatoka and Lautoka. I think one more market that we are working with the Ministry of Local government to progress infrastructural work.”

Burniat says they have used quite a large amount of money in the re-building of the Rakiraki Municipal market which was entirely destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

The UN Women will continue to help meet the needs of women market vendors around the country.
