UN Women hands over $700K for Savusavu market facelift

The UN Women today handed over $700,000 to the Local Government Ministry to help in the Savusavu market facelift.

UN Women Representative Nicolas Burniat says this agreement is part of the UN Women’s Market for Change Project in the Pacific.

Burniat says they are also looking at funding the maintenance of the Levuka Municipal market.

“It is one of the largest women empowerment project in the region and in the world and we are extremely proud that the support from the Australian government and the DFAT and the Canadian government, we are able to support this initiative. We hope that we will be able to continue. Because there is a few more markets here.”

The total cost of the market facelift in Savusavu will be around $1.1 million.

The Savusavu market is the eighth market project agreement that the UN Women has signed with the government.
