UN resident coordinator excited for Election

The country’s new UN resident Coordinator, Sanaka Samarasinha is excited at the fact that Fiji is having its second election under the 2013 Constitution.

Samarasinha says this is another step towards establishing Fiji as a democratic nation.

Samarasinha who is also the UNDP resident representative says he looks forward to a robust campaign over the next 40 days.

He says apart from campaigns and the results of the election, the electoral process is also important.

He adds he looks forward to the engagement of the whole society in a constructive way because it’s also an opportunity to have a dialogue on issues.

Samarasinha highlighted that whoever comes into power should reflect on issues that surface during this time leading up to the elections

Samarasinha says he looks forward to the day after election and hopes the new government will be able to achieve the Sustainable development goals set for the country.

He replaced Osnat Lubrani who served for almost five years in Fiji, covering ten Pacific Island Countries.
