UN Rapporteur meets Education Minister

United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to Education, Dr. Kishore Singh has commended Fiji’s unprecedented levels of spending on education.

Dr. Singh met with Education Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy and his executive team today and says there’s been a lot of progress in access to education for Fijians.

He adds that reforms need to continue and be given some legal backing as well.

“It’ll be good if a very solid legal foundation is laid down for reforms and future perspective covering key concerns such as quality, financing, raising teachers’ social esteem and status and also the fundamental issues of education.”

Dr. Mahendra Reddy made a one hour presentation on how his ministry is implementing policies to ensure no one is denied quality education in Fiji.
