UN hails peaceful parliamentary polls in Fiji

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the peaceful conduct of parliamentary elections in Fiji.

In a statement, Ban Ki Moon is commending the people of Fiji for exercising their constitutional right to vote.

He is encouraging everyone to continue to maintain the peaceful atmosphere as we wait for the final results and to resolve any disputes that might arise through the established legal process.

Ban Ki Moon is hopeful this election will mark an important step forward for Fiji’s transition to democracy.

He adds, the UN is ready to work with the new elected government.
