Two sentenced to prison for murder

Two men in Nadi have been jailed for killing a 40-year-old man in 2014.

34-year-old Mataiasi Ului has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of murder.

Ului will serve a minimum 15 years in prison before a pardon can be considered by the President of Fiji.

Meanwhile, 35-year-old Maikeli Loko who was convicted of manslaughter will serve three years in prison.

The two were initially charged together with 49-year-old Vinod Sargam and 47-year-old Rakesh Kumar on one count of murder.

However Kumar and Sargam were acquitted of the charge by Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Paul Madigan.

The incident happened in Nawaicoba, Nadi whereby the 4 men assaulted the 40-year-old man for allegedly performing witchcraft on Kumar and Sargam.
