Two men have died after an accident in Wairabetia Lautoka early this morning.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirms the two victims from Waiberatia were passengers in a vehicle with three others traveling towards Lautoka when the incident happened at around 3am.

It is alleged the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road whereby it hit a tree at the junction of Natabua and the Queens Road.

The driver of the vehicle and two other passengers are currently admitted at the Lautoka Hospital.

Investigators are still compiling the particulars of the two victims and the condition of the three survivors.

Naisoro says initial investigation indicates that the surviving victims were allegedly intoxicated when brought to the hospital and the accident could be alcohol related.

The road death toll currently stands at 61 compared to 59 for the same period last year.
