Two in custody for cocaine bust

An Australian national and a local are in police custody for a cocaine bust near Vuda, Lautoka.

Fiji and Australian authorities seized parcels containing cocaine weighing almost 50 kilograms and valued at close to $15 million on Monday afternoon.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says charges against the two suspects are expected to be laid tomorrow.

A joint operation team consisting of the Fiji Police Force, the Australian Federal Police and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority closed in on the two suspects near the Vuda Marina – where the drugs were seized from the vehicle they were traveling in.

Further investigation also resulted in the discovery of large amounts of Fijian and Australian currency from one of the suspects’ hotel room.

Police say no further details will be released at this point in time with investigation still in its early stages.
