The fifty-eight-year-old taxi proprietor, who was also known as Babu had traveled to New Zealand a week ago to visit relatives.

Ali’s elder sister Tamina Bibi, says her brother was a regular worshiper at the Al Noor Mosque.

“Before he left he said to pray for his safe return to Fiji. We didn’t call him after that. He left on Saturday and on Friday we didn’t go to work. We were at home.We were just sitting when my husband said that Babu was online and asked whether I spoke to him. I told my husband that I haven’t spoken to him yet.”

She says at around 2pm on Friday she received a call from her sister who informed them about the shooting. She says she turned on the TV and saw her brother (Ramzan Ali) being interviewed.

Bibi says they were informed yesterday that Ali’s body was recovered from the mosque.

“We waited on Friday and Saturday and there were no updates in relation to Babu. And finally, last night was informed that Ali’s body was recovered from the mosque.”

Ali lost his wife less than a year ago and is survived by only daughter.

Meanwhile, another Fijian family is in distress and awaiting confirmation on their 61-year-old relative and former Fiji resident also by the name of Ashraf Ali.
