Two convicted for rape of tourist

Two men convicted of raping a tourist in the Northern division have been sentenced to 13-years and 8 months and 12 -years and 6 months respectively.

26-year-old Taitusi Manuca was convicted of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault while 35-year-old Jone Colata was convicted of two counts of rape.

The court heard that the two were drinking with the victim and her husband on 7th July last year.

The court heard that the victim felt exhausted and sat in the passenger seat of a vehicle with the door open when the two raped her.

High court Judge Justice Paul Madigan said the sexual attack took place at night when no one else was around.

Manuca has to serve 10-years behind bars before being eligible for parole while Colata has to serve nine-years.
