Two arrests of assault were made in the capital city last night by officers monitoring the nightclubs.

Police Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu says both were cases of drunk and disorderly that later escalated to assault.

One resulted in the assault of a police officer and the second between a husband and wife.

With the thousands of people converging in to the capital city last night, police officers from various units were deployed to ensure maximum visibility and public safety.

ACP Tudravu says this is also inclusive of the ongoing weekend operations in Suva to crack down on drunk and disorderly behavior.

He says the momentum of operations will continue every weekend.
