Twenty consequential bills passed

The twenty consequential bills were passed in parliament this afternoon.

Members of parliament took turns to debate about all the bills before it was put on a vote.

The motion was passed with 34 I’s, 8 No’s and 8 didn’t vote.

The consequential bills being debated are the Water Resource Tax Bill 2017, Super Yacht Bill 2017, Service Turnover Tax Bill, Income Tax Bill, Tax Admin Bill, Pensions Bill, Tertiary Education Loan Scheme Bill, Stamp Duty Bill, Financial Management Bill, Land Transport Bill, Value Added Tax Bill, Excise Bill, Omni Bus Electronic Fare Ticketing Bill, Environmental Levy Bill, FRCA Bill, Customs Bill 2017, Customs Tariff Bill- these are all amendments to the existing law.

Accident and Compensation Bill 2017, Commerce Commission Bill 2017, Budget Amendment Bill 2017 and Regulars in the Permits Building Bill 2017.

Sayed-Khaiyum says that as part of this year’s budget the government has announced an increased focus on taxpayer compliance and enforcement to ensure that all Fijians benefit from duty reductions.
