Twenty barristers and solicitors admitted to the bar

February 21, 2018 12:05 am

A total of 20 barristers and solicitors were admitted to the bar during a ceremony at the Suva High Court today.

Chief Justice Anthony Gates says being a lawyer is not only about brains and hard work, it’s also about being thorough and making sure not to miss anything.

“Lawyers are employed to check things to make doubly sure. If you are slack and sloppy you will soon have a reputation for making mistakes and for not being reliable, careful, for not looking after the client’s interests.”

Gates says the new lawyers should show that they recognize the rights of others and respect them.

These lawyers have been granted permission by the Judicial Department of Fiji to practice law in the country.
