Truck driver arrested from his residence over Naboutini accident

The driver of the truck that was involved in an accident last night near Naboutini in Serua has been arrested.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the driver was arrested from his residence in Matanivusi settlement in Serua this morning.

Police say the man was driving a truck that was loaded with sand and was heading towards Sigatoka when he allegedly failed to negotiate a sharp bend resulting in the accident.

A 48-year-old man from Navutulevu Village died from this accident.

The victim and a second passenger were rushed to the Korolevu Health Center but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The second victim has been transferred to the Lautoka Hospital and is admitted in critical condition.

The driver is in custody as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, the road death toll currently stands at 45 compared to 59 for the same period last year.
