Troubled youth joining I.S

June 29, 2015 5:01 am

Many young men joining the Islamic State terrorist group are from criminal or violent backgrounds.

Imam Afroz Ali, a leading Muslim cleric spoke on FBC TV’s 4 The Record programme last night and said I.S recruits from outside the Middle East are troubled individuals.

It’s only those people who are far removed from Islam – happen to be Muslims, but are people involved in existent criminal activities within their own countries. They’re running away from their own responsibilities, seeking a place where they can respond in a rebellious way and what better place than a place of war.

Imam Afroz says there have been isolated cases of locals accessing Islamic State videos and information – which is mostly used by recruiters for the terrorist group.

He says while Fiji and the region aren’t directly at risk, these are issues that we need to be aware of and stay one step ahead.
