Tropical Cyclone Winston heading back to Fiji

The Weather Office has confirmed that Tropical Cyclone Winston is heading back towards Fiji.

The system has been highly erratic and unpredictable this week, but has now intensified to category 4 – on its way down from Tongan waters.

The Nadi Weather Office called an urgent media conference this afternoon to sound the alert that Tropical Cyclone Winston, will be in Fiji Waters Saturday.

‘We have issued a tropical cyclone alert for the Lau Group and the gale force winds is expected to affect the Lau group, later by Saturday’.

Seen here, TC Winston is expected to enter from the Lau group with Kabara, Lakeba and the rest of the Lau group directly in its path.

‘It is further going to intensify into a category 5 system briefly and then it is going to be a category 4 system and move further west’.

Kumar says strong winds and torrential rain will be experienced throughout the Fiji group as TC Winston makes a loop from Tonga.

‘this is especially in the Lau group, you are requested to prepare for the gale force winds as it is a category 4 system it has strong winds around its center of about 90knots’

The weather office has called on all those living in maritime regions to take the necessary precautions as TC Winston’s arrival in imminent.
