The trial of a sixty-five-year-old man charged with one count of rape and two counts sexual assault continued at the Suva High Court today.

It is alleged the man had raped and sexually assaulted his seven-year-old granddaughter between 2012 and 2014 in Nasinu.

While giving evidence during the trial, the victim mentioned that her grandfather had touched her private part.

Judge Justice Vincent Parera says the victim failed to clarify what she meant when she referred to ‘private part’.

The victim has been called to court to clarify this.

Meanwhile, the defence has opted to exercise their right to remain silent.

The trial continues.
