The trial of a former Fiji citizen continues in the Auckland High Court in New Zealand.

His lawyer claims an ex-boyfriend was an “easy suspect” for NZ police.

The NZ Herald reports the lawyer claims Singh is innocent of slashing the young mum to death in her Auckland home.

The Crown prosecutor alleges he laid-in-wait at her house with a large kitchen knife before stabbing her in a “brutal and prolonged attack”.

The motive, the prosecutor told the Court was Singh’s obsession and infatuation with Chand, who did not want to continue a secret sexual relationship.

The defence says the police and the Crown have developed a detailed theory and it points to Singh as he was an easy target and an easy suspect for them.

Chand, also known as Singh, was found dead at her home in Manurewa, Auckland on November 12th.
