Trial of 30-year-old charged with manslaughter to start next year

Trial of a 30-year-old driver who allegedly caused the death of two women in Valelevu, Nasinu last September will begin in August next year.
Viliame Ratoto is charged with two counts of manslaughter and one count of breach of zero alcohol limit and one count of dangerous driving occasioning grievous harm.
It is alleged that on September 16th last year, the accused engaged in conduct by driving a motor vehicle in a manner which caused the death of two people along Kanace Road in Valelevu.
It is also alleged that Ratoto had a concentration of 156.2 milligrams of alcohol in his blood which was in excess of the prescribed limit.
The state told the court they will be calling in eight witnesses during the trial.
The case will be recalled on 23rd August this year for a pre-trial conference.
Trial proper will be held from the 17th to the 28th of August next year.
Ratoto’s bail has been extended.
