Trial date set for Rabuka case

The trial dates for SODELPA leader, Sitiveni Rabuka has been confirmed this morning in the Suva Magistrates Court.

The one week trial is set to begin on the fifteenth to the nineteenth of October, this year.

Rabuka is charged with providing false declaration of Assets, Income and Liabilities to the Supervisor of Elections.

Defence Counsel Filimoni Vosarogo informed the court that as they are engaging the services of a Queen’s Counsel, Ian Lloyd to hear the substantive matter and that he would be available for the October dates.

There was no objection from the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption’s lawyer, Rashmi Aslam.

Resident Magistrate Joji Boseiwaqa will preside over the case.

Its alleged last year Rabuka provided false declaration of assets and liabilities to the Supervisor of Elections by failing to provide information pertaining to the tax liability with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Services which amounted to over $316,000.

He is also alleged to have failed to declare Investment and interest income from Raghwan Constructions Limited in the amount of $200,000 and $16,000 respectively and also a liability in the amount of $120,000.

Meanwhile a pre-trial conference will be held on the fourteenth of September.
