Treat your surroundings with care: Kumar

June 11, 2018 5:12 am

We need to treat every inch of our islands and environment with the same care and attention to cleanliness as we do in our homes.

This was the message reiterated by Environment Parveen Kumar while launching the Environment Week celebration in the North today.

Kumar says as Fijians, we are not treating our islands the same way we are treating our homes.

He adds we have to take pride in our islands and change this.

“We do not spit in our houses. We do not toss wrappers in our living rooms. We do not throw rubbish underneath our beds. So, why do we do this in public spaces? Why do we have so much rubbish lying around our towns and cities. On our roadsides. On our beaches, rivers and stream?”

Bala encouraged school students to implement a solid waste management program, like the 3 R’s.

Schools actively involved in the 3R initiative will receive recycling bins from the Ministry.

Two schools in the Northern Division received theirs today.
